Kinetic approach to temperature relaxation in dense plasmas

چکیده

The relaxation of nonideal two-temperature plasmas is investigated with a kinetic approach. First the energy transfer between the electrons and ions is described using different approximations: the energy transfer through classical collisions (Landau-Spitzer approach) is reviewed; quantum diffraction and strong collisions are included by applying the quantum Boltzmann equation; the influence of collective modes is considered on the basis of the LenardBalescu equation (coupled modes) and with the Fermi-Golden-Rule approach (independent electron and ion modes). Finally, the evolution of the species temperature is investigated. In nonideal plasmas, changes in the correlation energy have to be taken into account during the relaxation. It is demonstrated that ionic correlations can significantly influence the relaxation (particularly the evolution of the ion temperature).

Relaxation of Dense, Reacting Two-Temperature-Plasmas

The driver energy in many dense plasma experiments is almost exclusively coupled into one species and, thus, a two-temperature plasma is created after a short relaxation. Beam particles or field ionization can also create a nonequilibrium charge state distribution. Although ionization kinetics and temperature equilibration usually occur on separated time scales (for solid density ≈ 100 fs and ≈...

Correlation effects on the temperature-relaxation rates in dense plasmas.

We present a model for the rate of temperature relaxation between electrons and ions in plasmas. The model includes self-consistently the effects of particle screening, electron degeneracy, and correlations between electrons and ions. We successfully validate the model over a wide range of plasma coupling against molecular-dynamics simulations of classical plasmas of like-charged electrons and ...

Model for dynamics in supercooled water.

We propose a phenomenological model for the intermediate scattering function (ISF) associated with density fluctuation in low temperature water. The motivation is twofold: to extract various physical parameters associated with the ISF computed from extended simple-point-charge model water at supercooled temperatures, and to apply this model to analyze high resolution inelastic x-ray scattering ...

Kinetic modeling and molecular dynamics simulation of ultracold neutral plasmas including ionic correlations

A kinetic approach for the evolution of ultracold neutral plasmas including interionic correlations and the treatment of ionization/excitation and recombination/deexcitation by rate equations is described in detail. To assess the reliability of the approximations inherent in the kinetic model, we have developed a hybrid molecular dynamics method. Comparison of the results reveals that the kinet...
